I finally did something good!!!

All semester in 2D design I've been basically fucking around. Today we had an assignment to reproduce a photo by gridding it off and drawing each grid separately (I forget if there's an actual term for this). This is what I came up with and I have to say, this is the hottest shit that I've done all semester. The original, in case you couldn't tell, is on the bottom. Granted, it's only about 7" by 5" but I think that I'm going to enlarge it even further tomorrow. In case anyone is interested, it's pencil and marker on paper.

Next thing...I went to the BC MFA thesis exhibit, Plan B, this evening and I have to admit that even though there were some pretty cool pieces there, I felt the need to rush out as quickly as possible. It's almost a guarantee that this happens whenever I go to a gallery or museum. It's like my shopping instinct ("get what you need and get out!!!") kicks in and I go, I see, and I get the fuck out of Dodge. Last week when I went to MOMA, I went up to the exhibit that I wanted to see, went around really quickly, and left within half an hour. Same thing when I went to Chelsea last week. I started at one gallery and within 30 minutes, I had been through about four of them. I usually get this feeling when there are more than 20 people in close proximity to me but it also happens when I'm the only one in the gallery (i.e., any gallery in Chelsea). I think, however, that there is a sweet spot where I don't feel like I have to hurry up and get out of the way so that someone else can look or get out of the gallery so that the person at the desk can go get their lunch. That sweet spot though is hard to find but I think that I did experience it when I went to the Brooklyn Museum. There weren't too many people there and I could just browse around without having to look over anyone's shoulder or move out of the way so that some little old lady could read the placard. I believe that I shall put this theory to the test tomorrow when I visit P.S. 1.
